How to make a Character

The D&Destiny 2e character sheet is still in development, but the 1e character sheet still covers 99% of what you need.

We’re looking for a character sheet creator!

quick overview:
  1. Pick your class, but don’t do anything with it yet.
  2. Assign your starting ability scores.
  3. Choose your species and add its information to your character sheet.
  4. Add your class information to your character sheet.
  5. Add the Risen background to your character sheet.
  6. Make your Ghost’s character sheet.
  7. Talk to your Architect about your starting equipment.

1. Pick Your Class

Though you won’t be adding your class’s feature information to your character sheet just yet, pick your class now. Know what class you want to play as before doing anything else.

2. Assign Your Starting Ability Scores

Estimated Time: 1 minute

You’ll need to ask your Architect (also known as your GM) which method you’ll be using to determine your starting ability scores. We can’t replicate that information here.

Your Ghost’s ability scores do not need to match your Guardian’s, but you should use the same method to determine their ability scores later on.

If you’re not sure how to stat your character, use the table below to assign your primary and secondary stats. The primary stat should be your highest starting ability score, and the secondary stat should be the second highest.

Recommended Ability Scores by Class
Class Primary Stat Secondary Stat
Gunslinger Choose Dexterity or Strength Charisma
Arcstrider Dexterity Intelligence
Nightstalker Dexterity Wisdom
Striker Constitution Choose Dexterity or Strength
Defender Strength Charisma
Sunbreaker Strength Wisdom
Voidwalker Intelligence Dexterity
Sunsinger Charisma Choose Dexterity or Strength
Stormcaller Wisdom Dexterity
Ghost Dexterity Any!

3. Pick a Species

Estimated Time: 5–7 minutes

Species ->

Ask your Architect which species you can choose from. Then, read through your chosen species’s traits and add their effects to your character sheet. If a trait tells you to increase an ability score by X amount, do that; if a trait allows you to take a special kind of action, copy that information to the character sheet; and so on.

4. Add Class Information

Estimated Time: 10–20 minutes

See the Class Overview here ->

Go to your individual class and update your character sheet with your 1st level class features. This includes information found under the Hit Point Stats, Starting Proficiencies, and Power Stats headings.

Power Level

Your Power level is not the same as your character level. You can find your Power level in your class table—it will always be the rightmost column.

Energy Shield Recharge Roll

Your energy shield recharge roll is equal to one shield die per Power level + your Power modifier. The table below shows your shield recharge roll at 1st level.

ClassEnergy Shield Recharge Roll
Gunslinger1d8 + Charisma modifier
Arcstrider1d6 + Intelligence modifier
Nightstalker1d10 + Wisdom modifier

5. Add the Risen Background

Estimated Time: 1 minute

The Risen Background ->

Talk to your Architect about the choices you’re making for your proficiencies.

6. Make Your Ghost

Estimated Time: 5–10 minutes

Your Ghost ->

Add your Ghost’s ability scores, traits, and features to either a second character sheet if you’re using a standard D&D 5e sheet, or it will be one of the pages included in your D&Destiny character sheet.

7. Starting Equipment

Estimated Time: 10–20 minutes

Talk to your Architect about what your starting equipment will be. Here’s the usual starting equipment list, but you may have more or less items, depending on the nature of your campaign.
