Game Designers
Be one of the people creating the rules, systems, and structures for D&Destiny 2e! You’ll need to evoke the Destiny experience in tabletop gameplay, write & communicate those mechanics clearly (even to players who have never heard of Destiny before), and respond to feedback from our thousands of players.
Details
What You’ll Do:
- Design and refine core mechanics, subsystems, and character options for Dungeons & Destiny 2nd Edition. Some of this will be updating material already present in D&Destiny 1e and in D&D 5e’s SRD.
- Create rules that evoke the Destiny experience, but aren’t too overwhelming for tabletop gameplay. Not everything that works in the video game works with pencil & paper.
- Write clear, accessible rules text and reference materials for all levels of player and GM, including those brand-new to TTRPGs or Destiny.
- Collaborate with others to ensure consistency across all Velvet Fang material.
- Balance gameplay through analysis and based on feedback from our Early Access gameplay.
- Document design intent and maintain internal design guidelines.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong understanding of 5e’s game systems, both narrative and tactical. You should be able to tell us how the CR system works, how to balance an encounter, and what your own personal preferences for design are.
- Experienced 5e content writer or 3+ years of being a 5e GM.
- Ability to communicate rules clearly and concisely to GMs and players.
- Familiarity with the core Destiny setting.
- No, we’re not looking for hundreds/thousands of hours spent playing either game. We simply want to see people who know about the setting and can confidently write for it.
- Ability to meet deadlines and iterate based on feedback.
- Bonus points for:
- Familiarity with layout‑friendly writing (bullet points, summaries, modular design).
- Ability to analyze player behavior and adapt your mechanics accordingly.
Module Writers
We’ve got several modules for 2e in the works: Vault of Glass, Crota’s End, basic patrol options—and more! As one of our module writers, you’ll design the adventures, encounters, and narrative content that make these modules easy to run and exciting to play. You’ll translate game mechanics from the video game into a playable TTRPG experience for a wide range of players, including those who are brand-new to the Destiny setting.
Details
What You’ll Do:
- Write complete adventure modules including hooks, locations, encounters, and possible resolutions for the GM to work with.
- Design combat, exploration, and social challenges that evoke the Destiny play experience, but aren’t too overwhelming for tabletop gameplay. Not everything that works in the video game works with pencil & paper.
- Produce GM‑facing guidance: summaries, tactics, pacing notes, and quick‑reference tools.
- Develop player‑facing materials such as handouts, clues, rumors, and flavor text, as well as NPC descriptions and dialogue GMs can reference.
- Ensure adventures support player agency and multiple paths forward, where appropriate.
- Collaborate with others to ensure consistency across all Velvet Fang material.
- Revise content based on feedback.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong narrative writing skills with an eye for structure and pacing.
- Experience running or writing TTRPG adventures (any system).
- Ability to communicate GM instructions clearly and concisely.
- Familiarity with the core Destiny setting.
- No, we’re not looking for hundreds/thousands of hours spent playing either game. We simply want to see people who know about the setting and can confidently write for it.
- Understanding of encounter balance and scenario design for 5e. You do not need to be an expert, you simply need to understand the basics.
- Ability to meet deadlines and iterate based on feedback.
- Bonus points for:
- Familiarity with layout‑friendly writing (bullet points, summaries, modular design).
- Experienced 5e content writer or GM.
- Prior published 5e work.
Map & Map Asset Artists (2D)
We need artists who can create immersive, functional maps/assets for D&Destiny gameplay. Your work needs to be both beautiful and mechanically legible, to help GMs run smooth encounters and give players a vivid sense of the environment.
Details
What You’ll Do:
- Create high‑quality maps and game assets for encounters, dungeons, raids, and other specialized encounters for D&Destiny.
- Interpret written descriptions, adventure outlines, and design briefs into visual layouts.
- Design maps that support tactical play.
- Produce multiple map formats when needed (grid/no‑grid, player/GM versions).
- Collaborate with others to ensure consistency across all Velvet Fang material.
- Follow established art direction, style guides, and worldbuilding constraints.
- Revise maps based on feedback.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong illustration or cartography skills with a portfolio of map work.
- Understanding of TTRPG needs: clarity, scale, flow, and tactical readability. Your art needs to support gameplay, not just aesthetics.
- Ability to meet deadlines and iterate based on feedback.
Game Masters
Velvet Fang needs additional game masters to run our D&Destiny West Marches campaign, New Light. Our ideal candidate is someone very familiar with the Destiny setting who can deliver memorable sessions, GM for a wide range of players, and uphold a consistent tone and quality from one session to the next.
Details
What You’ll Do:
- Run engaging, well‑paced New Light sessions for groups of varying experience levels. Some of your players will be familiar with Destiny or 5e, others will not.
- Run provided material for New Light, as well as Early Access material for Dungeons & Destiny 2nd Edition.
- Maintain consistency with the campaign’s tone, lore, and mechanical expectations.
- Uphold Velvet Fang’s player rules to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful table environment.
- Communicate clearly with players before and after sessions.
- Collect feedback and provide session summaries.
- Collaborate with other GMs to maintain continuity across the campaign.
What We’re Looking For:
- 2+ years of experience running 5e games, ideally for multiple groups of players.
- You must have a Discord account and a roll20 account. You do not need pro/paid accounts.
- Comfort working within an established world and rule structure.
- Ability to think beyond your table: something you say in your session can affect players in other sessions.
- Ability to manage pacing, tension, and player engagement.
- Clear communication and organizational skills.
- Reliability and professionalism in scheduling and preparation.
